Pitch Report: Teams likely to bowl first after winning the toss
The pitch at Edgbaston generally supports batters, but teams winning the toss usually prefer to bowl first.
Built in 1882, the stadium has hosted 60 Test matches so far. Out of these, 19 have been won by teams batting first, while 23 have been won by teams bowling first.
The average first-innings score at this venue is 302 runs, while the second-innings average is slightly higher at 315 runs.
This is the same ground where England chased down a target of 378 runs against India in 2022, which remains their highest successful run chase in Test cricket.
England has also previously chased 371 runs against India.
Because of such successful chases at this venue, teams are likely to prefer chasing in the fourth innings.
